“CADDO LAMENT” by Dr. James Harris, Jr and “Fillup the Cup” by me (Elynn Price) were the attraction in a book signing last Thursday evening.
Dr. Harris’ book is full of amazing art work by Bob Sunday and a treasure trove of vivid tales of Caddo Lake; its people, history and future. All the guests of the event including myself were all agog over it’s richness and message.
“Fillup the Cup” also received high praise for its message-don’t litter! Parents and grandparents alike responded with the same refrain. “It’s about time someone addressed this issue.”
I was pleased with the accolades. But, I wondered why the simple discipline of not throwing one’s trash on the street or highway is an issue needing to be addressed.
Most households have rules about ‘not making a mess and cleaning it up when you’re done.’ Why is the outside, our streets and neighborhoods any different?
My next book event is at Joe Pine Coffee Co. It will most likely be Saturday, Jan 27th. (I’ll keep you posted.) There will be a reading, including sign language, treats for the children and a pleasant break for the parents.
Joe Pine Coffee Co. is recently new to downtown Marshall, TX. They cater to folks who combine caffeine and contemplation and conversation. It is a true coffee shop contributing to the friendly and intellectual growth of our community. https://www.facebook.com/joepinecoffee/
In an effort to further spread my message against littering, I am cooperating with the Marshall Police Department to organize a “Touch-a-Truck” event this spring. Along with many popular large vehicles we hope to have several community-minded organizations participating. Health care, day care and child-centered businesses and organizations will offer summer time program information. Good food and drink will also be available. Hope to see you there-beginning of May 2018.
